Fort Lauderdale Parkinson’s Home Care Providers

Referring caregivers who can provide Parkinson’s home care visits and live-in help appropriate for the needs of individuals with Parkinson’s disease.

Senior Nannies can refer caregivers who can provide comprehensive home care services for individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease), and other neurodegenerative movement disorders that progressively interfere with basic activities of daily living. The goal of every Parkinson’s referred nannie is to facilitate a fulfilling, independent life at home for your spouse, parent or other loved one with Parkinson’s through compassionate supervision and assistance with activities that tend to become more difficult as the disease progresses.

Part-time Parkinson’s home care services are typically all that are needed in the early stages when symptoms are milder and minimally disruptive. The course of Parkinson’s is highly individualized, however, and it is not possible to reliably predict what symptoms may develop or when, and therefore what the needs will be. In the earlier stages of Parkinson’s, many individuals are still capable of driving themselves to appointments and social activities. But transportation can become an issue as Parkinson’s progresses and symptoms can make it increasingly complicated and sometimes less safe to perform basic activities of daily living. Individuals with Parkinson’s may also develop cognitive symptoms including memory loss and dementia. More information on Parkinson’s disease can be found by visiting the American Parkinson’s Disease Association website.

Some of the services that the Parkinson’s home caregivers we refer to commonly provide include:

  • Companionship – interpersonal cognitive stimulation, facilitation of physical activity, and intervention for loneliness and depression
  • Personal care assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as hygiene/bathing/grooming, transferring/positioning, mobility/walking, toileting/incontinence, and eating
  • Personal care assistance with instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) such as meal planning, cooking, light housekeeping, laundry, pet and plant care, transportation, errands, shopping, doctor and other appointments

For more information on non-medical in-home personal care, visit the Home Care Services section of this website.

If medically necessary skilled nursing care for a loved one with Parkinson’s disease is required, Senior Nannies can also refer skilled licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and registered nurses (RNs) who have experience with the special needs of individuals with Parkinson’s disease to provide in-home health care. For more information on medical home care, visit the Skilled Nursing Services section of this website.
